I “like” a lot of local shops on Facebook, and I LOVE that many post pictures of their inventory. A couple of weeks ago, I saw two chairs for sale at the Furniture Zone in Boone, and posted the picture on Squaw Creek’s Facebook wall. After getting positive feedback from some of you, I tricked my hubby into going to town with me to look at them.
While there, it’s safe to say that he did NOT want to bring the chairs home with us. But a quick text to my mom revealed that she was just a couple blocks away, so she came over, and pretty soon, we were loading the chairs in the back of the van.
I like turquoise, I really do. But usually, I like it on a pillow. Or a throw blanket. Turquoise upholstered chairs? Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be buying turquoise chairs…
But they’re here, and you know what? I love them!!!
The style is perfect for our 100+ year old house.
But the color and upholstery are perfect for a young family!
(someday, I’ll finish re-finishing the trim for that window…)
So what do you think? Should turquoise stick to pillows? Or is taking a risk with turquoise worth it?
(And just for fun – here are before, during, and current pictures of this room… We’ve come a long way, baby!)

They are fabulous!! I may be biased.....I did paint my daughter's room turquoise. I think they're a great choice!
ReplyDeleteI love them! I think they fit great and they make me want a pair of turquoise chairs!
ReplyDeleteI love them!!!!!!! Those are fantastic and make such a statement!
ReplyDeleteConsidering I'm thinking about painting a whole room turquoise, I'd say getting a couple of chairs is pretty conservative. I love them!
ReplyDeleteI think they're great! I love when vintage stuff comes usable as is, no reupholstery needed.
ReplyDeleteI think they look great! I like bright pops of colour in a room, and furniture is a great way to do that.
ReplyDeleteI love your chairs!!! I don't know if you remember that I bought a pair of wingbacks for CHEAP last summer. All my inspiration pictures have a set in shades of green or blue. Well, my ugly duo are still mauve because I'm to chicken to commit to a color! You inspire me. Now to just DO it!
ReplyDeleteThose chairs are excellent additions to your room! What a great find!!
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest a small vase of the same color for the table beside your couch and a throw pillow with that color in the pattern, or a turquoise throw pillow - or both - for the couch? You might even add touches of turquoise to the lovely patterned throw pillows you already have using fabric paint.
Cheers!
Fabulous chairs. Your vision for them in your home was right on target. I agree with the comment of baquilter...work toward adding some other touches that include that color and you've pulled it all together wonderfully well. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog. Your room is light years from where it started! Great work. So fun that you are at the purchasing and furniture and decorating stage. We've recently been working on our family room makeover, and the finally buying furniture is in sight.
I followed you over from the BNOTP linky party. I would love if you stopped by my blog.
Thanks for sharing,
Laura
Hi Katie, I used an image from this post as an inspiration picture on my post today. Thanks for being an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous chairs! I bet you are so happy that you took the chance on turquoise!
ReplyDeleteThe risk it definitely worth it. The turquoise is so fun and chic...yet the chairs style are reminder of times past....perfect combination.

I think your risk paid off. KEEP the chairs. They add tons of character and fun. Great eye for design. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous. I think the tone works perfectly with your warm wood. They add the prefect subtle 'pop' in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI want to add some turquoise to my home...just not sure where. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteI think they look beautiful. I do understand being afraid of them, though. That is a LOT of turquoise.....but, in the end, they work perfectly with the style of the room and the rich warm wood tones. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOMG. That green carpet was ugly. I'm wondering if the bucket was there in case someone became ill ??? LOL... I have had my share of icky carpet, etc etc. The bones of your house look. fabulous. What a joy to work on something that can look so beautiful with TLC. Honestly, if the hubby can buy a house with green carpet and pink and purple walls, he can get used to blue chairs! Of course, you could drape a throw or quilt over to break up the color. I would look for some fabric or pillows with turquoise as an accent color. Bringing some of the color over to the other wall would be a good thing. Maybe turquoise ribbon on the lamp shade ? I think the turquoise pops the hardwood door, trim etc.

You took a risk and it paid off beautifully! I adore those chairs! Good for you!Audrey
ReplyDeleteLove the chairs in front of the hardwood cabinet it really makes them pop, I'd go with pillows that had a tiny bit of tuquoise in them! Lovely livingroom!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those chairs! The style and colour are fabulous and they look great in your room. I love turquoise! It's one of my very favourite colours :)

ReplyDeleteThey are fabulous! I too bought vintage blue velvet club chairs thinking I'd reupholster them but once I got them home and in the living room, I decided I loved them as is!
