Isaac has arrived!
Monday, March 28, 11:58 PM
8 lbs, 2.5 oz, 20 inches long
We are all doing really well right now!
Volume 2
“Your cervix has no interest in having a baby. You could hammer a nail through it and nothing would happen.”
He’s said that to me 3 weeks in a row, now. Not dilated even the tiniest bit, and maybe 25% effaced. Good thing I’m still feeling pretty darn good, despite being 2 days from my due date!
Here are some others to cheer you (and me) up:
When asked about lunch meat…
“Blah blah blah (statistic) women in the US get listeriosis every year, and blah blah blah (statistic) of them are pregnant. So if you’re okay with it, I’m okay with it.”
When asked about avoiding tearing during delivery…
“The best thing you can do is to have had a baby before.”
me: “But so-and-so said she just tries to push slowly, and not force things along, and she doesn’t tear.” (So-and-so is a mom in my water aerobics class who has had MANY babies with my OB.)
him: “But so-and-so is having her 9th baby. She gets to about 6 cm and the baby just falls out!”
And one more, from a bloggy friend of mine, Curly T. Go HERE to read it. It’s worth it. :)

Some random notes:
1. I’ve been corrected. It’s not Dr. Speciman, it’s Dr. Spaceman. I knew it was pronounced “Spe-CHEM-an” and I knew it was a “real” word. My fuzzy brain just screwed it up. I’m glad you corrected me!
2. My best friend called yesterday from 3 states away. She said she looked at my to-do list and thought packing the hospital bag should be the most important thing. So, we talked for an hour, and then I packed it. And made a list of phone numbers to call to watch Adam, and a list of things to grab at the last minute. Done!
3. I also cleaned my car Thursday. First time it had been vacuumed since I bought it in August of 09. I feel like I’m in a rental car when I drive it now, but I wanted to make sure it was clean, because I’m sure the baby cares.
4. I’m spoiled rotten. My family had a “sprinkle” for me today. It’s like a shower, for your 2nd kid. I got a gigantic visa gift card that I’m going to spend on a new diaper bag. I can’t wait.
5. I’m spoiled rotten. My Kindle came today. My birthday is April 2, and I thought a Kindle would be really nice while I’m nursing, so hubby ordered it for me.
6. My sister was supposed to take pictures at the shower today. These are the pictures she took:
7. This is her punishment for doing such a lousy job.
8. Adam was really shy at the start of the sprinkle, and snuggled on me like this for quite awhile. We’ve been spending a LOT of time snuggled up together lately.
9. He also likes to give Baby Brudder kisses.
10. 8 days till my due date. I predict that it’s at least 10 until the baby is born, though. And I’m okay with that right now.
11. I also crossed off “potty train Adam.” Not because he’s potty trained, but because we worked on it last weekend and it was a DISASTER! We’ll try again later.
And a couple questions:
What are your favorite diaper bag features?
Any cheap e-book recommendations?
My OB has a great sense of humor. It’s one of the reasons I like him.
It has also given me some great material for this post. This is one of my favorite conversations from this pregnancy…
30 weeks:
Me: Adam was born an hour after my water broke. I’m kind of nervous that I won’t make it here in time if my water breaks at home. And my husband is often in a turkey barn where he doesn’t get cell phone reception.
OB: How far away are the barns?
Me: Quarter mile. Too far to walk!
OB: Hmm..can you keep some dry ice at home?
Me: I guess. (thinking that it has something to do with the safety of the baby)
OB: Okay, then here’s what you do. If your water breaks, put a couple of pieces of dry ice in a 2 liter bottle, with a little bit of water. Put the lid on and throw it outside.
Me: okaaayyyy….
OB: It will explode, and he’ll hear it and come to get you. Just don’t throw it in the garden, because it will kill the plants. My wife still doesn’t know that’s what happened to her hostas last year on the 4th of July.
I realized after I left that he never really gave me a straight answer. I was back in the building for water aerobics later that day, and I saw him in the hallway and said…
Me: Seriously, should I be worried?
OB: Where do you live?
Me: 30 minutes away in ________ (dinky little town of a couple hundred.)
OB: Yes, you should be worried. If your water breaks at home, don’t take a shower, make supper, or run the dishwasher. Just haul @$$ to the hospital.
Okay, great. :)
Has your Dr. ever said anything ridiculous like that to you? I’d love to hear about it!
After 3 (or was it 4?) incredibly busy weeks, a 7 day fever and terrible cold, we’ll finally be back to “normal” this week. Zero extra meetings, zero extra days at school/work and zero major decisions to be made.
In that time, I’ve forgotten how to be productive at home…we’ve just been focused on surviving, know what I mean?
But it’s time to get back to work. So, my February to-dos have become March to-dos. I deleted a few of the less important ones, and I’m adding some new ones.
See that last one? I’d really prefer to get the others done first, but with 2 weeks until my due date, it seems unlikely!
I do have a couple things done, that I haven’t shown you yet. Look forward to those this week! (For real, I promise!)
Yes, I’m still alive.
Yes, I’m still pregnant.
And yes, according to my to-do list, it’s still February.
I don’t even have a single thing crossed off.
And I have about 10 things to add for March.
Better get busy!
